Project Leader:
Dr. Ashita Singh
Description:
EHA started development of palliative care services in rural north India in 2009 when a needs assessment highlighted that patients with palliative care needs were sequestered within their homes, often with little care from their families. They had often spent large amounts on cancer treatment and were not able to afford further care.
A palliative care service, one of the first of its kind was established at the Harriet Benson Hospital in Lalitpur. EHA Canada supports training of health workers and has helped to renovate the hospital so it can provide palliative care.
